Aqua-therapy (also known as Hydrotherapy) is a great way to exercise. Specific movements and exercises in the warm water helps to relax muscles, reduce stiffness and ease pain.  The water buoyancy supports the body, allowing you to move more freely and access muscles that may be too weak to use out of the water.  Being in the water also provides a safe way to challenge your balance and practise standing and walking.

We use floats, woggles and collars to help someone feel supported and weightless or to provide resistance to challenge muscle work.

We can offer treatment in the hydrotherapy pool at Broadstone Physiotherapy. This is a purpose built and accessible facility heated to 35⁰C. Sessions can be one-to-one with sole use of the pool, making it a relaxing and individual experience.  A carer or family member may attend and come into the pool as well as help with dressing.  There are steps with a rail and a sling and chair hoist to provide safe options into and out of the pool.

We also offer aquatherapy sessions at a swimming pool near you. Many leisure centres have pools with hoisting facilities and accessible changing areas.

Dorset Neuro Physio runs a weekly Hydrotherapy Class for people with Parkinson’s.
This is a great way to keep fit as well as a sociable, fun activity.
